1. HOW DOES THE WORKSHOP WORK?

The Comics Workshop is an extension project of the Federal University of Ceará (FUC). That is, it is open to the community, regardless of whether participants study at FUC or not. Our only reservation regarding students is that they are over 15 years old. The course lasts one year, with classes on Saturdays, from 9am to 12pm, at the FUC Humanities Center II (Benfica Campus) where the workshop instructors learn and practice Scripts for Comic Books, Drawing for Comic Books, Comic Art and Production Techniques and Comics Publishing.

 2. HOW TO ENTER THE WORKSHOP? WHAT WILL BE IN THE TEST?

Our selection process consists of a pre-registration, carried out via an online form available on our website (Registration section). As we cannot receive all the applicants and fortunately the demand is always very high, we restricted the participation in the written test, our selection test, to the first 252 applicants. At this stage, the tests are evaluated by our team, and we form the class of students of the year. The content of the selection test exam is confidential and only those involved in its elaboration know it. And even then, it would be unethical to reveal this content to anyone before the test. The coordination of Oficina de Comics cannot explain the content of the test, but we can say that it is a “written test of creativity”.

3. I DON'T KNOW HOW TO DRAW, SO I HAVE NO CHANCE TO ENTER, RIGHT?

Wrong! Oficina de Comics does not require advanced drawing skills from its students, as this is not our focus. The Workshop selects its participants according not only to their drawing skills, but also to their creativity and ability to tell stories (if you only know how to make stick figures but know how to write good stories, you will have the same chances as an experienced designer). In addition, within the workshop you will learn drawing ideas from the very beginning and from there develop your drawing style.

4. WILL YOU TEACH ME HOW TO MAKE MANGAS OR COMICS?

We teach how to produce comics, without distinction of styles and formats. From there you develop your style: manga, comics, strips, photonovelas, you decide!

5. I LIKE COMICS, BUT I DON'T LIKE DRAWING...

No problem, many participants in our workshop specialize in other techniques such as scripting and colorization, creating great partnerships with different artists.

6. HOW MUCH WILL IT COST ME?

The Comics Workshop is free! You only need to pay a single registration fee of R$ 1.00 on the day of the selection test, and we will not charge you anything else... except for your participation in the classes.

7. MY SON/NEPHEW/COUSIN IS NOT YET 15 YEARS OLD, CAN  YOU MAKE AN EXCEPTION?

I'm sorry, but we can't do that. It would be an injustice to the other people who were left out of the course because of their age. However, listeners are always welcome!

 8. AND WHEN THE WORKSHOP IS ENDED? I WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE ATTENDING IN THE NEXT YEARS...
